(together with a dose rate meter GRAETZ
X 5 C plus
or predecessor model X 5 C / X 5 DE / X 50 DE)
- Visual control regarding damages on the outside of the instrument.
- Control the contact row for accommodating the basic unit. The contacts have
to be non-corrosive and dry. When pressing the contacts they have to spring back.
- Remove the rubber protective cap at the end of the probe. The window beneath
has to be undamaged. The rubber cap must be equipped with a steel plate.
Put the cap again onto the probe head.
- Extend the telescope to its maximum length and clean it with a non fraying
cloth. Grease the extended telescope with Vaseline.
- Slide-in the telescope again. The rubber wrapping at the end of the
telescope shouldn't be cracked or damaged, otherwise tightness of the slided-in
telescope is not guaranteed!
- Put the functioning - but switched off - basic unit onto the contact row of the
Telescope Probe.
- Switch the basic unit on. It will pass the self test. The basic unit must
identify the Telescope Probe by indicating "I" on the display.
- Functional control of the GM-tube for low dose rate:
Activate the single-pulse indication of the basic unit. Approx. 10 counts/min have
to be heard. Due to the statistically varying dose rate of ambient background radiation
the background counts are spread irregularly, too.
NOTE: The functional control of the GM-tube for high dose rate can
only be effected in high radiation fields, i. e. only by the manufacturer
GRAETZ.
- Press the pushbutton at the side of the Telescope's handle for switching over
to the inner GM-tube of the connected dose rate meter. During pressing the button
the "I" on the display disappears. The pulse rate of the acoustic single-pulse
indication may change.
- After the test, the dose rate meter can be removed from the Telescope
Probe DE (open the locking device).
If a defect is observed during the control measurements, which cannot be cleared
by yourself, the instrument has to be returned to the manufacturer
GRAETZ for repair.
